Everyone always loves to share there rigs and there story so I will go first.

I built a wooden rig when I first started iRacing but when I moved I told myself I wouldn't use the bulky ugly thing. So I built this current rig I am using now.

Check it out:

It isn't a requirement but as for me I try to not use the clutch assist but on some tracks I do use it because I am still a noob when it comes to heel/toe action. So if the track is real demanding on the footwork I currently turn on the assist. But I am working on it.

PostSubject: Re: Race Rigs   Race Rigs Empty2/9/2013, 6:47 pm

I told you I would post pic of my rig and information on some of the add-ons that I use. So here goes.

I have one of the first US shipments of the Obutto Ozone. Back in 2008 I got this thing for $285 delivered. I had some damage to some parts so "Obutto" Chris sent me a new seat, monitor stand, and wheel stand. Not all these parts had damage, but through a comedy of errors thats what I ended up with.

I have a Fanatec GT3RS wheel with Clubsport pedals. The first alteration I made to the Obutto was to invert the CSPs. Not so much an alternation of the Obutto but more of a bolt on. The second thing I did was go triple screens. I got 3 22" Acers off Craigs List for $90 each. Problem was I had to create my won triple monitor mount for the Obutto. The original Obuttos used a different diameter tubing for the wheel and monitor stands so the add-on Obutto triple monitor mount wouldn't work for me. I came up with 1/2" aluminum tubing that I shimmed into the monitor stand tubes. After shimming I was surprised to find that they were perfectly straight up and down. I took some of the left over 1" square aluminum tubing that I from the CSP pedal inversion stand and used it as cross members that I mounted 3 vesa wall mounts. I got the wall mounts from Monoprice and these things are over kill for my purposes and can handle up to 33 lbs, so if I ever decide to get larger monitors I am set. The mounts work well and I can get the monitors as close as I'd like. Typically I run with the center monitor 19.5" from my eyes which leaves about 2.5" between my fingers and the monitor when turning the wheel. My last alteration of the Obutto was that I needed the wheel closer to me without raising it up any higher. If your familiar with the Obutto you'll know that to move the closer to the seat you need to move it higher. So I cut the wheel mount tubes and got some clamps to clamp it then back together, problem solved.

I am on my second GT3RS, the first I believe started having over heating issues which effected the FFB motors and the wheels ability to stay connected while racing. While Fanatec did send me a new PCB that didn't solve my issues. I think the root cause it that the fans can't keep up with the heat produced and as the wheel wears over time it heats up more and more. The first thing I did after getting my replacement was to mod the cover to attach a USB fan. Now my wheel will never overheat.

I use 3 main iracing add-ons.

Shift tone plays a tone at your shift points. There are default shift points, but you can also customize it if necessary. I just use the defaults. You cna get more information here: Shift Tone Utility

Glovepie is used for voice command to make setup adjustments and view different screen while driving without needing to push any buttons. There are a number of threads in the iRacing forums for glovepie but this one is the most helpful: Voice Commands w/Glovepie

I'll attach 2 scripts one is the voice command script and the other is a button finder. The voice command scripts is mainly setup for oval racing but it works in all races for me. The button finder is great for finding the number of the wheel button that you want to use to activate the script. That is all explained in the thread I linked to above. I'll also attach the latest version of Glovepie. Find the download on the Glovepie website is hard.

GlovePie v .045 Free

Button Finder Script

Voice Commands Script

Lastly I use iappstarter, this little things starts up the other add-ons whenever you join a session, and it shuts them down when you leave a session. So I have it set to start shift tone and glovepie. iappstarter allow you to set command lines for starting the add-on so for glovepie it automatically starts running my voice command script.

iAppStarter

I also use trading paints but I am still using the old version. But you could in theory add trading paints to iappstarter and it would startup and download all the paint schemes for everyone in your session, and then refresh the paints so you'd see the custom paints people are running. At least with the new version of trading paints. Like I said I still use the old version and it downloads all the paints for my subscribed cars whenever I logon my computer.

Brian,

Nice rig, thanks for sharing.

What has been your experience with the Clubsport V1's, and how difficult was the inversion process? I am debating on getting the V2's, or looking for a set of V1's. My understanding, however, is that the V2's can not be inverted. I'm not even sure if Fanatec is still selling the V1's, or if I have to find a set second hand.

Can GlovePie be used to record macros without the voice activation? I am really only looking for a No Tires and No Fuel macro that I want to map to two buttons on my button box.

Hiro, Glovepie is probably not the best solution for button based macros. There are better solutions like autohotkey for that, Glovepie can do it but it gets complicated quickly.

My like my CSPs. This is a replacement set, I had to return my original set after about 3/4 months. The throttle stop responding so Fanatec sent me a replacement set. After that after they figured out another issue, that I never had and they sent me a replacement set of electronics; that I coincidentally just found while cleaning out the office. But I have had no issues with them since. The inversion process is actually quite easy. You switch the clutch and the throttle connection on the PCB. Have to be careful though one of the wires is shorter and just barely reaches in the new location. And you need to switch the clutch and the throttle springs and pedal face plates. I think the CSPs offer good bang for the buck when looking for a stand alone pedal set.

If true, strange that V2s can't be inverted. Maybe it has to do with the shock they use on the brake pedal. I just got an add-on shock for my brake pedal and all you do is flip it over when mounting if your pedals are inverted. Don't know why the same principle wouldn't apply to the V2s. I do understand however that some of these new hydraulic brake systems can't be inverted due to the fluid reservoir.

Somebody has inverted them.
